The various approaches and methods of humanities research in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe are the focus of the contributions in this volume. Not only are methodological and scientific-theoretical aspects of concept and theory formation examined in detail, but historical and socio-political contexts of the emergence of humanities research programs are also addressed. It becomes clear that a number of processes are underway in Eastern and Central European academic institutions that contribute to an intertwining of epistemological and post-ideological transformations of research as well as academic curricula. The clarification of the humanities in the Eastern European discourse also includes the attempt to address a new status of research findings in the public sphere and to achieve a contextualization of research problems in public debates.
