Product details
The historical background for the narrative is provided by an iconoclasm in the Netherlands, during which radical Calvinists devastated over 400 churches in August 1566. Kleist describes the plan of four brothers from Holland to destroy the Aachen Cathedral during the time of the Reformation's iconoclasm.
Heinrich von Kleist (1777 - 1811) was a German dramatist, storyteller, poet, and publicist. He is best known for the historical knight play 'Das Käthchen von Heilbronn', his comedy 'Der zerbrochne Krug', and his novellas 'Michael Kohlhaas', 'Die Marquise von O...' and 'Das Erdbeben in Chili'. On November 21, 1811, Kleist took his own life along with his companion Henriette Vogel.
