Erich Fromm, psychoanalyst and social philosopher, was born on March 23, 1900, in Frankfurt am Main. After earning his doctorate in sociology in 1922 in Heidelberg, he came into contact with Sigmund Freud's psychoanalysis and became a psychoanalyst. In 1933, he emigrated to the USA, where he taught at various institutes, and subsequently, from 1950 to 1974, he taught at the University of Mexico City. He died in 1980 in Locarno, Switzerland.
