With the present volume of Provincia Arabia, the presentation of our own research work is complete. It initially contains the description of the five Hauran cities of Bosra, 'Atil, es-Suweda, el-Kanawat, and es-Suhba, and extends beyond the northern border of the province to the large Roman fort of ed-Dumer, which, although located in Syria, can be considered in some respects as the northernmost point of the Arabian limes.

A seven-day stay in the ancient capital of the province provided me with the opportunity to thoroughly examine the significant ruins and to document various structures in detail; in particular, I was able to measure the magnificent, still quite well-preserved theater in all its essential parts, although the suspicions of the Turkish garrison, despite the initially friendly disposition of the commander, hindered the completion of the work.

In 1897 and 1898, the two authors undertook two journeys to the Near East region. This work is a high-quality reprint of the original edition. The numerous illustrations, sketches, and photos further illustrate the detailed descriptions provided by the two authors of the remains of the Roman fortifications and their trade routes at that time.

The Verlag der Wissenschaften publishes historical literature by both well-known and lesser-known scientific authors. This makes works that have long been out of print accessible again to interested readers. The present book is an unaltered reprint of the historical original edition from 1909.
