In the Federal Republic of Germany, it is generally assumed that there are equal professional opportunities, regardless of social background. Only above-average commitment and a suitable academic education are deemed necessary to build a successful career and reach leadership positions. However, factors such as social background are often considered to have little significance in the development of professional life. Based on the foundational theory of the French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu, this work aims to investigate a possible correlation between social background, education, and professional career. The focus is on the economic elite and access to these top positions. The study attempts to apply Bourdieu's habitus theory and the various types of capital he defined to German society in order to illuminate the professional opportunities of social actors in the economic sector.
