In ten or twenty years, we will have no other choice: we will have to dim the sun. But this cannot be the responsibility of individual states or companies. For billions of people, especially in the global south, this means a struggle for survival. Soon, the only choice will be between increasing suffering due to climate impacts and solar geoengineering. This involves artificially cooling the Earth by reflecting sunlight in the atmosphere. This technical interim solution buys the necessary time to decarbonize the economy and generate enough green energy to remove the CO2 from the atmosphere that has caused the warming.
