The animal stories are narrated by 86-year-old Leyla Fontaine, the fictional great-great-great-granddaughter of the French fable author La Fontaine. In each story, the uniqueness of one of her animals is portrayed through fabulous adventures, and a way is found to deal with the different personalities.

The texts, written in verse form, pay homage to the French author but are in modern language and rhythm.
