The pieces in this volume do not have such tangible thematic and material similarities as was partly the case in the previous volumes of the Werkausgabe. They are simply the last pieces published in the 1990s. Nevertheless, there are thematic constants and dominant key motifs in the new plays as well: the desire for utopia, life as a role, delusion and madness, and finally the question repeatedly asked at the beginning of a play that always remains unanswered at the end of the play: How to live, what to do.
