Christoph Wilhelm Hufeland (1762-1836) is referred to as the father of naturopathy and the founder of macrobiotics. In 1796, his main work "Macrobiotics or The Art of Prolonging Human Life" was published, which was translated into numerous languages and made Hufeland world-famous. Shortly before, the physician, who had been brought to Jena by the Saxon Duke Karl August as a professor, had begun publishing the "Journal of Practical Medicine and Surgery," which became a significant platform for physicians of various specialties. Among Hufeland's patients were Goethe, Schiller, Herder, and Wieland. Later in Berlin, he also attended to the royal family of Friedrich Wilhelm III and became the director of the Charité there. The present book summarizes Hufeland's experiences and is considered his medical testament.
