The book "Microbiological and Molecular Study of Colletotrichum acutatum in Strawberry" offers a comprehensive analysis of the phytopathogenic fungus Colletotrichum acutatum, which causes significant economic damage in strawberry cultivation areas. Particularly in greenhouses, this fungus is responsible for over 80% of plant mortality. The work describes the microbiological and molecular characterization of the strains responsible for strawberry anthracnose in southern Spain. By examining morphological and metabolic properties, as well as conducting phylogenetic analyses using ribosomal gene sequences and Southern blot hybridizations, a deep understanding of the pathogenicity and biological characteristics of C. acutatum is provided. Additionally, a newly developed method for the identification and diagnosis of the pathogen is presented, which is based on Real-Time PCR and shows a significant increase in sensitivity compared to previous methods.
