The National Socialist regime skillfully utilized medicine for its own purposes. Under the swastika, healthcare became a matter of state: the people had the duty to be healthy and to remain healthy. "Healthy people, strong people, invincible people" was the motto for Germany's future. The German medical profession acted as enforcers of racial madness, becoming deeply entangled in the crimes of the Nazi regime between 1933 and 1945. As rulers over life and death, doctors were complicit in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people who fell victim to the insidious idea of a racially pure race. This book focuses on the racial hygiene aspect of Nazi propaganda in the films of the Third Reich. The author provides an introductory overview of the background of racial hygiene and then discusses the situation of doctors in the Nazi state. Building on a brief presentation of Nazi propaganda methods, she analyzes the portrayal of doctors in terms of their role as ideological disseminators of racial hygiene theories in Nazi feature films.
