The early concentration camp Börnicke was established in mid-May 1933 by the SA standard 224 and developed into the central detention facility for the East Havelland during its three-month existence. Members of the SA, SS, and Steel Helmet, as well as police officers, abducted 500 to 600 predominantly political opponents of the National Socialists to the camp, where the daily life of the detainees was marked by work, violence, and murder. At least 18 people lost their lives due to the actions of the SA standard 224, which also spread its violence outside the concentration camp. Based on extensive sources and eyewitness accounts, this volume presents the history of the camp, its victims, and the perpetrators, and connects it to the legal and historical reappraisal after 1945.
