Not only did his antics in TV productions like the slapstick series Nonstop Nonsens in the 1970s or in his Didi films around ten years later make him well-known to a broad audience, but Hallervorden is also a subtle satirist: he founded the cabaret stage Die Wühlmäuse in West Berlin as early as 1960. In 2008, the entertainer took over the renowned Schlossparktheater in Berlin and renovated it with his own funds. During the 2011/2012 season, a significant scandal occurred that brought Hallervorden into the headlines: in the play 'I Am Not Rappaport,' a white man with black shoe polish on his face plays a black character. Immediately, accusations of racism were directed at the theater director, who insisted he had no racist intentions.
