Around 7,000 female candidates between the ages of 16 and 28 participate annually in approximately 200 regional preliminary rounds across the country, aiming to be one of about 20 young women to reach the finals for the title of Miss Germany. There, they present themselves in jeans, evening gowns, and swimsuits to a jury of sponsors and celebrities. The prize includes a year of fame and lucrative appearances. The latest competition: the TV casting show Germany's Next Topmodel.
