The fascination of natural science: Herlinde Koelbl in dialogue with 60 of the world's best researchers With the invention of the tool, man began to rise above the forces of nature. What seemed impossible, we have since realized: to fly like a bird, to travel into space, to communicate without boundaries. Evolution does not happen on a large scale. It begins on a small scale, on a personal level. With the curiosity of a person, an idea, with a first step from which progress into a new world grows. Herlinde Koelbl focuses on this urge to discover new things in her international project "Fascination of Science. In an unusually accessible way, she portrays 60 of the world's most renowned natural scientists and Nobel Prize winners. A formula, a philosophy, a quote: the photographer asked each of the portrayed to write down the essence of their research on their hand. In this way, the fascination of science becomes tangible in the literal sense! A human look into the abstract world of scientific research Herlinde Koelbl searches for the person behind the research, what drives him - regardless of origin or nationality - to keep going after the first step. The interviewees candidly outline not only their research, but also their personal experiences, successes and setbacks on the way to the top. They also reveal how they organize their private lives and what advice they have for young people. The interviews thus become exciting narratives that refute the prejudice that many researchers are unworldly, aloof or socially isolated. Koelbl (SZ) succeeds in creating an extraordinary psychogram of the women and men whose knowledge creates our future. Overview of the current span of the scientific cosmos From astronomy to biochemistry, from quantum physics to stem cell research to artificial intelligence.
