Since the challenging market conditions caused by the global financial and economic crisis of 2007, even traditional companies are facing insolvency. These crisis-ridden companies recognized the need for strategic and operational restructuring too late. In addition to these restructurings, financial restructuring is increasingly coming into focus within the current macroeconomic tension.

This paper presents the measures and instruments of financial restructuring for crisis companies through private equity funds based on a literature review. First, the terms 'restructuring', 'crisis company', and 'private equity fund' are explained. It also outlines where an optimal entry point for a private equity fund in a crisis company might be. This is followed by a detailed presentation of selected measures and instruments of financial restructuring, supported by selected practical examples from private equity funds.
