With the present third volume, the series 'Advances in Pharmaceutical Research', established two years ago, continues as planned. Once again, an attempt has been made to provide a comprehensive overview of certain areas of pharmaceutical research, this time addressing organic fluorine compounds as medications, the structure and effects of various anthelmintics, 5-hydroxytryptamine and related indolealkylamines, the pharmacological aspects of allergies, cancer-active antibiotics from actinomycetes, and new steroid drugs. The third volume is slightly smaller in scope compared to the previous two; this was done partly out of the desire to expedite its publication and make the reports available to the reader as soon as possible after their writing, and partly to prevent the individual volumes from becoming excessively large. As a new feature, this volume includes an index for the first time. The editor hopes to meet the expressed wishes of numerous colleagues and to enhance the usability of the series as a reference work. The index lists German, French, and English keywords together; its current structure should be regarded as an experiment, and the editor welcomes suggestions, proposals, and criticism from the readership.
