"Fuck you, Content Strategy" reflects the fundamental attitude of many companies in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland (D-A-CH) towards content strategy and content marketing through 13 theses. The author also takes a critical look at the situation of Austrian SMEs. Her theses are based on her master's thesis.
The decision-making levels of traditional SMEs are characterized by a significant lack of know-how in digitalization and online marketing, as there is already a lack of a unified understanding of what is meant by the disciplines of content marketing and content strategy. This gap is further compounded by a lack of customer orientation, ignorance about the target audience of Generation Y (Millennials), and often a personally ambivalent relationship with the use of mobile devices among executives. Additionally, an inability to collaborate with review platforms, bloggers, and influencers, as well as misjudgments regarding the user groups of individual social media platforms and the technological development towards artificial intelligence and its application in marketing, further define this gap.
However, the lack of know-how in content marketing and content strategy affects not only marketing managers but also business owners and HR managers. In the end, one concludes as an outsider based on the facts presented in the book: The motto in these companies seems to be "Fuck you, Content Strategy!"
The author also provides the reader with 6 practical steps for their daily routine on how to get rid of this motto from the book title and pave the way for professional content marketing with a content strategy in their own company. She discusses the guide she developed for content strategy development at its core and offers tips for personal Google research on the topic of content marketing.
