Emperor Otto the Great is one of the most important figures in world history from the Middle Ages in the area of present-day Germany. The book is dedicated to the question of how the ruler was seen in art over the centuries and which of his qualities and deeds ultimately became images. A catalogue of selected paintings, graphics, manuscripts, sculptures as well as objects of arts and crafts opens the view to strategies of staging, mythicising and actualising the emperor within the thematically arranged presentation.
