With the yearbook "Deutsche Comicforschung" (German Comics Research), editor Eckart Sackmann wants to close gaps. The series is intended to cover the entire spectrum of German comics. In doing so, Sackmann follows the expanded concept of comics that has been advocated for some time by Scott McCloud and the international research group Platinum. Like all forms of cultural expression, comics have a long, interesting history spanning many centuries. Since it is useful to know about the origins of a thing and its peculiarities subject to the flow of time, fashions and technology in order to understand it, the editor endeavours to cover a broad arc through this history in each issue. In future, the yearbook "Deutsche Comicforschung" will also provide information on the current state of research, research that is only now in the process of emerging from its infancy.
