The cumulative subject index for German Studies 2000-2004 serves as a counterpart to the name index published last year. It provides comprehensive and convenient access to data in the field of German Studies, as the keywords often do not emerge clearly from the titles themselves. The five evaluated volumes encompass 33,309 titles. Important and extensive terms such as aesthetics, society/literature, edition, and textual criticism are explained in the context of literary periods or author names. Individual linguistic disciplines such as phonetics, syntax, phraseology, etc., are divided into the respective languages or stages of the German language. Over the years, a significant compilation of text types and lexicological studies, specialized and technical languages, genres, motifs, and other aspects of German Studies research has emerged. A system of references guides the user to the terms used. The terminology has been standardized across the individual issues (as far as possible), and the references and explanations have been completed. The cumulative subject index reflects the development of German Studies, highlighting thematic focuses, methodological changes, and the interests of the discipline.
