The private art collection of the Hilti Art Foundation includes over 200 paintings, sculptures, and photographs of the finest quality, ranging from Classical Modernism to the present day. Volume 1 of the two-part collection catalog presents 80 selected works from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century, featuring artists from Paul Gauguin to Alberto Giacometti. The spectrum of Post-Impressionism, Expressionism, Cubism, Futurism, Neo-Plasticism, Surrealism, and Abstraction is condensed in the collection shown in Volume 1, focusing on the following themes and artists: the human form in space and time in works by Lehmbruck, Boccioni, Picasso, or Giacometti; the tangible world of objects and nature in works by Kirchner, Gris, Feininger, or Dubuffet; the imagined world of symbols and ciphers in works by Gauguin, Klee, Beckmann, or Miró; and the non-representational world of geometric and informal design in works by Léger, Mondrian, Kandinsky, or Wols.
