Product details

'Home(less)' is a non-fiction book that reconstructs the story of a unique humanitarian project in post-war Germany. After the end of World War II, thousands of displaced children from across Europe were cared for by international aid organizations. These children, who were unaccompanied, lost, and traumatized, had survived deportations, forced labor, and concentration camps. The book highlights the founding of the children's village by the International Refugee Organization (IRO) in 1948, which served as a central facility for the care of these children. Until its closure in 1951, over 2,300 children from more than 20 nationalities passed through the village. 'Home(less)' examines the ambitious rehabilitation program developed by a dedicated team of international aid workers and addresses the challenges and dilemmas they faced. It also emphasizes the role of the children's village as a testing ground for contemporary trends in child welfare and international reconciliation. All proceeds from the book will be donated to UNICEF.
