Product details

Sixteen years have passed since Isaac Hayes passed away far too early at the age of just 65, but he remains one of the most beloved and iconic singer/songwriter/arrangers in the history of soul music. The albums Hayes produced for Stax's Enterprise label continue to set the standard for 'Symphonic Soul' and sound just as breathtakingly brilliant today as they did when they were first released. Hayes was not only part of a small group of artists who propelled the growth of the soul album market ('Hot Buttered Soul'), but he was also a consistently successful single artist, placing sixteen consecutive singles on the R&B charts between 1969 and 1976—most of which also made it into the pop scene. His biggest hits have been compiled in anthologies before, but 'Hot Buttered Singles' is the compilation that presents the A- and B-sides of all of Hayes' 45s from the 'Yellow Stax' era in chronological order and in their original single versions. Some of these have never been released on CD before. Many of these famous soul tracks are among his most popular recordings, which also revolutionized soul and pop radio, including the wah-wah intro fueled 'Theme From Shaft', 'The Look Of Love', 'Never Can Say Goodbye', 'Walk On By', and 'By The Time I Get To Phoenix' by Jimmy Webb. Extensively commented and beautifully illustrated in the booklet, available on CD and double vinyl!.
