For Jonas, life seems to be over. His wife has left him, his mother is slipping further into dementia, and his daughter with the beautiful name Vatnalilja (Water Lily) is no longer the person he thought she was. Therefore, he develops what he believes to be a foolproof plan. He buys a one-way ticket and flies to a war-torn country. The only piece of luggage he brings is his toolbox. Perhaps he will need to install a hook in the ceiling for the rope. The hotel where he checks in is as dilapidated as the entire war-ravaged area. With his tools and craftsmanship, he helps the women in the village rebuild their homes, as well as the young woman who runs the hotel with her brother. Suddenly, he no longer feels such an urgent need to die. His encounters with her make him think about a future again. This is a sensitive portrait of a man who has lost his way in life and must travel far to find himself again. Auður Ava Ólafsdóttir depicts it with seriousness and humor, humanity and irony – and full of poetry.
