Product details

Here they come together: the cheeky rooster who can't see anyone asleep, the bogeyman, the hunchbacked little mouse, the crafty rabbit, the saddest of all the May hares, the brave horseman, musical knocking spirits, and many more. And who brought them together like this? It was the wind that stirs between all the songs. It whistles, it whirls, it sings and sounds, it is cheerful and rumbling, and in the evening of the day, it lies down and sings us and everyone else to sleep. The obstinate nature of the wind connects the songs along the course of the day to form a suite in which the children's world of the 19th century makes contact with ours, supported by lively and erratic arrangements by composer Katia Tchemberdji and poet Monika Rinck. It is a curious company that has gathered here for a lively party, at the invitation of the wind. And his invitation is valid for everyone - a book like a gentle wind that goes through the strings and sings through the pages. Known as a close friend of Felix Mendelssohn and an early supporter of Richard Wagner, the Berlin court conductor Wilhelm Taubert excelled in almost all musical genres, but the celebrated composer, pianist, and conductor achieved his greatest fame by composing children's songs. His more than 300 compositions appeared in various albums, each entitled "Känge aus der Kinderwelt" (Songs from the World of Children), and found their way into children's homes from St. Petersburg to Lisbon. Because of their art song character, which went far beyond the purely childish and pedagogical, they were also played in concert halls: as romantic pieces that could be placed somewhere between Beethoven's Egmont Overture and a symphony by Mendelssohn. Today, these gems of children's song are unjustly forgotten. This edition aims to recall this delightful treasure trove of songs and to make it accessible anew for today's musical practice.
