Product details
The central theme is the analysis of the path and goal of human self-realization. The reader is encouraged to engage more deeply with their inner self. The coherence between the West and the Far East, as well as the European need for introspection and tranquility, which they believe can be found in East Asia, will be highlighted. This necessitates a critique of our fast-paced and superficial modern times. The aim is also to demonstrate the common foundation of all religions, cultures, and ways of thinking, in order to emphasize the absurdity of racism. Since the significance of China and India for the writer has been neglected in research on Hermann Hesse's work to be discussed here, this paper will particularly focus on East Asian motifs. The biography, family background, and political goals of the author will be presented to understand Hesse's personal motivations for writing the work. The three meanings of the Glass Bead Game in the life of Knecht, the main character of the work, will be discussed in detail. Following a thorough analysis of Knecht's stages of becoming human, the poems and biographies he wrote will be briefly addressed to underscore the significance of the goals that all people share, regardless of the cultural context and era in which they were born. Finally, Hesse's idea of a world religion will be presented. According to the author, there is a common foundation and essence among different ways of thinking, lifestyles, and religions that allows for the overcoming of the boundaries of individual belief systems and the creation of a human world.
