Michael Buselmeier's "last poems" were created over the past five years. In them, the author reflects on the increasing farewells, the loss of close companions, final journeys and excursions, as well as memories of childhood and youth. For instance, there is a poem about the unfortunate Hölderlin, who was traveling on foot in France in 1802, a lyrical cycle in memory of Arnfrid Astel, poems for the deaths of Günter Herburger, Wulf Kirsten, Oleg Jurjew, and Michael Braun. Other texts focus on existentially significant places and landscapes, such as the extensive title poem "In the Sands at Mauer." There are also experiences of an abused child during and after the war, who carves the first words and images into the wall of a bomb crater. Finally, there are apocalyptic themes, illnesses, and "the nasty old age." The stubborn old man wants to "die alone." Buselmeier's poems speak of the "absent" and make it "present" through language, while one can almost hear the rumble of history. The resistance against everyday chatter manifests itself in a poetic language, in its ambiguity, its autobiographical foundation, and its radical dissent: "roughly broken ground with wandering edges.".
