The book aims to provide new impulses for early foreign language teaching in primary schools and is directed at educators, students, and teachers. Based on the concept of internal differentiation in teaching by H.-J. Herber and taking into account current publications on the topic of internal differentiation, a program for English instruction has been developed. This program is aligned with current scientific findings in language research and considers the requirements of the Austrian curriculum as well as contemporary trends in lesson design. The empirical study focuses on the implementation of the concept in a fourth-grade primary school class. For the investigation, English performance was measured at the beginning and end of the study using specially developed tests in both an experimental group and a control group, and performance motivation was assessed at three different time points using two different measurement methods. The results support the consideration of internal differentiation in early foreign language teaching.
