Inner peace is the basic prerequisite for any kind of knowledge that penetrates the outer appearance of the senses, in particular for meditation, on the 'way inwards'. Christ instructed his disciples accordingly. The impressive account from the Gospels of Christ in the storm of the sea is interpreted by the author as a meditative image for the inner calm of the soul as a prerequisite for the knowledge of spirits and thus also for self-knowledge. The wealth of adaptations of this motif in the visual arts can amaze the viewer; in looking at the pictures, guided by the sensitive eye of the author, he is able to find access to the sources of his own inner peace. Meditation, religion and art complement each other in mutual illumination.
