The Second World War, which became the Great Patriotic War for the peoples of Russia, is an event with the status of an eternal occurrence in history. The outstanding word artist Andrei Platonov lived and wrote during the war. The proposed monograph examines Platonov's military prose in light of new archival and textual data. It focuses on questions of poetics: the interplay of the categories of the tragic, heroic, and utopian in Platonov's text about the war, the characteristics of the image structure, the function of traces, and the role of the Christian cultural code in organizing the semantic field of an individual work and the writer's military epic as a whole. The book concludes with a commentary on the story "The Return," which sheds light on the work's genesis as well as thematic, narrative, compositional, figurative, and motivational connections of the text with the context of creativity. An important component of the research is reading Platonov's military epic: revealing it, the author, and the understanding of time, history, and literature. The book is aimed at literary critics, language teachers, students, philologists, and a wide range of readers of Andrei Platonov's work.
