In her artistic work, Mechthild Veil repeatedly moves between two poles that may at first seem contradictory: Architecture and movement. Both in painting and in collages, the special handling of the surface is striking. It is true that people, objects and architecture as motifs determine the picture's message. But the surfaces often form an independent counterpart to them or become a carrier of meaning or action themselves. In many works, Mechthild Veil's affinity with architecture is also present, which expresses itself, among other things, in a feeling for the coexistence of building and space. Movement is expressed not only in the depiction of human bodies, but also in techniques such as tearing paper and in the lines and surfaces themselves.
