This book addresses the themes and motifs that clearly connect Max Frisch's "Homo faber," Ingeborg Bachmann's "Malina," and Georg Kaiser's novel "Es ist genug." All three works depict the subjective experiences of an individual, the suffering caused by others, and the resulting suffering of oneself. The escape from fellow human beings is closely linked to the man-woman issue. How does the disturbed nature of communication between the two genders manifest?
