Questions regarding the quality of care are becoming increasingly important, including in nursing care. The Care Report, published annually in book form and as an open-access publication, focuses in 2023 on the quality of care for long-term care recipients. The topic of quality in long-term care was already the focus of the Care Report in 2018. Much has happened since then: the legal quality assurance in nursing has been fundamentally reformed, and the pandemic has highlighted significant deficiencies, particularly in nursing homes. The effects of inadequate staffing, qualifications, and interprofessional collaboration are becoming increasingly apparent. These developments provide ample reason to examine the topics of care quality and quality assurance for long-term care recipients in the Care Report from various perspectives and to critically assess current developments. Additionally, the Care Report presents empirical analyses on the need for care in Germany as well as the utilization of different forms of care. A particular focus is placed on health care in outpatient nursing and in nursing homes.
