At the end of their studies, often even before that, graduates of a music education program face the question of their future professional sphere. Hourly employment on a freelance basis, usually at several music schools simultaneously, is the reality. The municipal music school as the sole employer seems insufficient for securing a livelihood. This raises the question of whether there are alternatives at private music schools and whether comparable work is possible there. Based on this approach, the present publication analyzes the field of private music schools. Two criteria are central to this analysis: Is it generally possible to provide a serious education for students at a private music school, and does it offer teachers similar working conditions as a municipal institution?.
