The field of construction engineering is considered the king discipline of all technical subjects. A successful design is a prerequisite for a successful technical product. This challenge is the focus of the book. The main chapters include: Design methodology and design systematics, designing and shaping, machine elements, drive technology, and computers in design. It conveys design fundamentals and qualified guidelines for construction technology, taking into account strength, tolerancing, possible materials, manufacturing, costs, assembly, and automation. Designing with regard to safety, ergonomics, environment, and aesthetics is also included. The chapter on machine elements presents modern machine elements, evaluates them, and selects and calculates them based on their specific applications. The drive chapter introduces the design variants and calculation principles of pneumatic, hydraulic, and electric drives. The chapter on computers and design provides an overview of the types and performance characteristics of CAD systems, simulation systems, visualization systems, and PDM systems, including bionic approaches. In the appendix, the reader will find an introduction to strength theory with a collection of exercises, as well as an in-depth examination of material pre-selection, also with exercises. The 7th edition has been thoroughly revised. Many pages are new or contain new images. Notable chapters include Geometric Product Specification (GPS), design for plastics, and assembly-oriented design. Changes in normative nomenclature and formula symbols have been adjusted.
