Food monitoring is an investigation program jointly conducted by the federal government and the states, which complements the official food monitoring of the federal states. While food monitoring primarily controls compliance with food law regulations through suspicion- and risk-oriented investigations, food monitoring is a system of repeated representative measurements and assessments of levels of undesirable substances such as pesticides, heavy metals, and other contaminants in and on food. With the help of food monitoring, potential health risks for consumers can be identified and addressed.
