Designed for learners with no prior knowledge, this textbook imparts communicative competence, solid grammar skills, and a strong foundational and advanced vocabulary for everyday life, travel, and work. Following an introduction to the Vietnamese alphabet and pronunciation, there are 21 lessons consisting of three realistic dialogues or reading passages, vocabulary lists, grammar explanations, and numerous exercises. A review unit after every sixth lesson reinforces the grammar through targeted exercises. Additionally, learners are familiarized with cultural and linguistic specifics of the country. The appendix includes the answer key as well as a German-Vietnamese and a Vietnamese-German glossary. Audio recordings of pronunciation exercises and all lesson texts are available for download. The textbook can be used both in the classroom and for self-study.
