The question arose whether a purely manual postoperative treatment following the implantation of a knee joint prosthesis is at least equivalent to the additional use of a motorized brace. Methodology: In this study, 40 subjects with osteoarthritis who were treated with a Genesis II knee prosthesis were assigned to two experimental groups based on a cutoff date. Patients who were operated on before the cutoff date received additional treatment with a motorized brace, while those operated on after the cutoff date were treated purely manually. The following parameters were compared: improvement in range of motion, measured with a standard goniometer; stability (anterior, posterior, and latero-medial opening); leg axis; pain; and the patients' ability to manage daily life without subjective limitations, assessed using the Knee Society Score. The WOMAC score provides a detailed representation of the subjective ability to cope with activities of daily living.
