The book "Mark and Paul" brings together an international group of scholars who explore the question of whether Paul had a direct influence on Mark. By employing the latest methods in New Testament research, the debate over the literary and theological influences between these two figures is intensified. Although no consensus is reached by the end, the fundamental questions are articulated more clearly. The authors examine how to relate two different literary genres, the apostolic letter and the narrative gospel. Additionally, the comparability of the theologies of these two forms of writing is addressed. The discussion also includes the implications that arise from the acceptance or rejection of a direct influence for our understanding of Christianity in the 1st century.
