I will give to the thirsty from the spring of the water of life freely. Revelation 21:6. The verse of the year 2018 is found in the last book of the Bible. The author is considered to be the Alpha and the Omega, God Himself, as the beginning and end of existence. For the recipients around the Mediterranean, where the first Christian communities were developing, water is the most important food source in a dry and barren land. For us Protestants today, the last word of the verse is the most important: freely. This makes the last book of the Bible a gospel, a message of joy: The spring of living water flows for all of us freely. We can drink from it whenever we want. In God's word, this spring is alive as sustenance for the journey ahead of us, for everything we plan and wish to undertake. This applies to our personal and family life planning as well as to the planning of the various circles of friends in our networks to which we belong. Just as this foundation of faith has shaped the past decades of my life, may it also be the foundation of faith for my remaining years.
