Arno Schmidt is considered one of the most significant authors of German literature. However, the exploration of his work cannot yet be regarded as complete. This book attempts to shift the focus onto a narrative that has been relatively overlooked in research, namely 'Seelandschaft mit Pocahontas', by discussing the various references to other primary works as well as research approaches from secondary literature, and relating them to original interpretative approaches. The central focus of this examination is the female protagonist Selma, whose transformations and names—one of the main characteristics of the narrative—are subjected to a systematic investigation. Through this analysis and classification of Selma's names, Arno Schmidt's narrative becomes more accessible once again.
