Molly tells her story in a few words, the story of a sheltered childhood – until puberty when things simply fade: "The blue sky turned gray, the scent of freshly mown grass disappeared, Grandma's fried potatoes no longer taste the same." But it gets worse. Mom, Dad, and her sister also lose their significance. Molly feels nothing anymore. Everything has become unimportant. She has even lost the memory of her feelings. She doesn’t want to live like this. The loss of sensory perceptions, of feelings in general, as is typical for depression, is brilliantly translated in this picture book into a fading of colors – which then return with almost physical intensity during recovery. Possible causes are not addressed, allowing for a broad and expansive space for identification for depressed and suicidal children and adolescents.
