For the first time, this elaborate publication presents color photographs of the city of Munich from the early decades after World War II. A City in Transition
The color images depict the city as a field of rubble, the beginning of reconstruction, and the restoration of architectural landmarks, the redesign of Marienplatz, and more significant alterations to the urban landscape just before the implementation of the 1963 urban development plan. The book also documents Oktoberfest, Carnival, and the Viktualienmarkt with numerous photos, as well as state visits from Charles de Gaulle and Queen Elizabeth of England and the celebrations for the 800th anniversary of the city's founding in 1958. Many photos featuring automobiles, trams, locomotives, and airplanes from that era illustrate the traffic in the city.
