The actor Frank Büttner can look back on 22 years of work at the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz under the direction of Frank Castorf. In addition to performing in Castorf's productions, he also appeared in works directed by Christof Schlingensief, Dimiter Gotscheff, and Andrij Zholdak. Just before the theater closed at the end of the 2017 season, he remarked: "...and that I had the opportunity to play Valentin in 'Faust' at the end, I feel grateful for that; I consider it my very personal farewell." In the two interviews presented from 2014 and 2017, the artist provided us with insights into his life, shaped by societal and political turmoil as well as personal upheavals before and after the so-called Wende. Thus, we not only learn about the artistic reflections and insights of a very sincere and unconventional artist living among us.
