Product details
Conversations about media are an important part of our everyday communication. However, their nature and effects have been little studied so far. This volume is dedicated to the concept of follow-up communication from both theoretical and empirical perspectives. Using discussions about television news as an example, it explores how recipients talk about media offerings and how this influences media effects. Survey and observation results characterize follow-up communication as a media effect at the behavioral level, which also co-determines the cognitive and emotional processing of news. It acts as a social filter and guide in media reception. Thus, the study represents a meaningful addition to the understanding of individual news reception.
