Product details
In preparing this Neo-Aramaic Chrestomathy, both authors aimed to present the reader with all existing types of literature in the written and spoken language of the people who identify as 'Assyrians,' in a corresponding selection accompanied by a detailed glossary organized by grammatical categories and considering all idioms. The Chrestomathy contains pieces from various time periods, ranging from 1848 to the 1970s. Over three-quarters of the Chrestomathy is derived from the dialect of Urmia, which was elevated to the status of a literary language by American missionaries in the first half of the previous century, and in which most Neo-Aramaic books published in Tehran and often in America were written. The remainder consists of some pieces in the Iraqi dialect, the dialect of Alqos, and the dialect of Sanandag.
