The journey to the afterlife in Plato's Book 10 of the Republic leads into a realm of imagination that employs incoherently connected metaphors, referring to the perspective of the soul, whose ascent into regions at the edges of the world is accompanied by images derived from the experiences of the deceased. The path leads from the world of life into a realm of abstract configurations, consisting of simple general forms or schemas, which are only concretized in object perception. This journey from the general to the specific, from the reflexive to the reflected, is viewed by the theory of microgenesis as a process that is phylo- and ontogenetically preformed. Outlines of bodies and pitches belong to early stages of object perception and can be sought out by consciousness under certain conditions and integrated as abstract forms. This allows for a connection of simple formations such as interval relationships and emotions, as these simple forms belong to a stage that is strongly affectively charged.
