The Vienna Secession was founded in 1897 by a group of progressive artists, including Gustav Klimt, Otto Wagner, and Koloman Moser, in Vienna. It was a response to the conservative and rigid historicism of the established art scene. As a cooperative of youth, they instead promoted Art Nouveau. In addition to painting, the artists, architects, and designers also dedicated themselves to sculpture, architecture, and furniture design.
