I have the xp-960 and have used these cartridges. I mainly print edgeless, A3 photo quality on glossy paper & would probably get around 20 from a set of cartridges. It obviously depends on what your printing & the quality settings. However it's usually the two photo cartridges that run out. The standard colours & black will probably last two sets of photo ink cartridges.

I am now assuming that the question is really meant seriously... If you buy a printer with 3 chambers of ink, it is best to buy 4-5 printers of the same model. The replacement cartridge always costs more than the complete printer. Besides, you have to replace the entire ink tank if even one ink chamber is empty. And black is not printed as a single colour but as a mixture of the 3 colours. The advantage of individual cartridges is that you only have to replace the cartridge that is empty. In the long run, this is always reflected in the lower price. Not to mention the protection of the environment. Secondly, printers of this type produce better and faster prints. And finally: If an HP printer with a 3-colour cartridge runs out of one colour, it will also stop printing.
